and Specifications 
Network cabling plays a crucial role in the communication system of an organisation. It is 
necessary to choose the right kind of network cables to achieve maximum efficiency. 
Network cables are connected to different devices and servers via cable connectors. These 
connectors have different types based on their unique applications. 
There are several types of network cables. Each type of network cable uses specific type of 
connectors to connect to another network cable or network interface card. 
The connectors are used to join two network cables or to connect a network cable to a NIC. 
 
Commonly used Network Cable Connector Types and Specifications: 
Barrel Connectors: Barrel connectors are used to join two cables. They allow to extend the 
length of the cable and the length of the cable must not exceed the maximum supporting 
length of the cable. 
F Connectors: F connectors are used to attach a coaxial cable to a device. They are generally 
used to install home appliances like TV, cable internet, CCTV camera etc. 
Terminator connectors: When a device places signals on the coaxial cable, the signals travel 
along the end of the cable. If another device is connected to the other end of the cable, the 
device will receive the signal. But if the other end of the cable is open, the signals will bounce 
and return in the same direction they came from. To stop signals from bouncing back, all 
endpoints must be terminated. A terminator connector is used to terminate the endpoint of 
a coaxial cable. 
T type connectors: A T connector creates a connection point on the coaxial cable that is used 
to connect a device to the cable. 
RJ-11 connectors: These are 4-pin connectors used for telephone connections. 
RJ-45 connectors: These are 8-pin connectors used for computer networks. 
 
 
DB-9 connectors: It is a 9-pin connector used to connect a device over a serial port. 
Universal serial bus connectors: These are the most popular connectors used to connect 
various external devices like keyboard, pen drive, mice, printer, and scanner to a computer. 
SC connectors: It connects to a terminating device by pushing the connector into the 
terminating device. 
Straight tip connectors: These connectors are used with MMF cables. 
LC connectors: An LC connector connects to a terminating device by pushing the connector 
into the terminating device. 
MTRJ connectors: An MTRJ connector connects to a terminating device by pushing the 
connector into the terminating device, and it can be removed by pulling the connector from 
the terminating device.
