Australia Relaxes Visa Rules to Combat Labor Market Shortages

Australia is experiencing severe labor shortages across various sectors. According to the OECD, the country goes through the second most labor crisis after Canada.   As per the data published by the Australia Bureau of Statistics in July 2022, the country’s job vacancy rate has surpassed the number of skilled workers available in Australia. To address the crisis, the government of Australia has increased the immigration quota for the year 2022-23 from 35,000 to 195,000. Apart from this, Australia has also relaxed immigration norms for several visa categories. Many Australian states have increased the annual allocation for categories such as Australia Skilled State Nominated (Subclass 190). Please refer to the table below to learn more about the visa allocations: Visa Category 2021-22 2022-23   Employer Nominated (subclass 22, 000 30,000 186) Skilled Independent (subclass 6, 500 16, 652 189) Skilled Nominated Visa 11, 200 20,000 State/Territory (subclass 190) Skilled Work Regional 11, 200 25, 000 (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) A skilled Independent visa (Subclass 189) is one of the most popular visa categories among potential immigrants. It is a points-based visa, allowing you to live and work anywhere in Australia.   Subclass 190, a state-nominated visa, is another prevalent pathway that gives permanent residency to the holder the moment they land in Australia. Although, the holder must live and work in the nominated state for at least two years before moving to any other state in Australia. Additionally, the Regional State Nominated visa (Subclass 491) is a temporary visa with a clear path to permanent residency and comes with benefits like access to Medicare. The beneficiaries of subclass 491 visas must live and work in the region nominated for three years and earn a taxable income over AUD 53,000 for each of those years before applying for permanent residency. To qualify for a skilled worker route, you must:   • Be under 45 years of age • Have secured at least 65 points in the points’ calculator system • Be invited to apply for the visa • Do a positive skills assessment of your qualifications • Demonstrate English language proficiency through a valid test result. • Meet health and character requirements   Do you want to learn more about subclass 190 visa Australia ?
