is a tool that attracts and kills flying insects that are drawn to light. Insects are drawn to 
an electrical grid by a light source, where they touch two wires with a high voltage 
between them and are electrocuted. The term is derived from the distinctive 
onomatopoeic zap sound made when an insect is shocked with electricity. In order to 
prevent people or larger animals from coming into contact with the high voltage grid, bug 
zappers are typically enclosed in a protective cage made of plastic or grounded metal 
bars. Inside is a light source, typically a fluorescent lamp that emits both visible and 
ultraviolet light. This light is visible to insects and attracts different kinds of them. This is 
not high enough to spark across the air gap, but it is powerful enough yet to flow through 
the insect's body, which connects the two grids. Bug zappers work by trying to lure 
insects with ultraviolet light, most frequently produced by a fluorescent bulb. The insects 
are electrified and vaporised as they enter the zapper.
