BULLET TRAIN PROJECT IN INDIA INTRODUCTION • India is moving forward with its second Bullet train project after Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed train corridor. • From Friday, 12th March, LiDAR or Light Detection and Ranging survey started for the proposed High Speed Rail Corridor between Mumbai and Nagpur. But chances are it may not be realized before 2025 owing to the inordinate delay in land acquisition for the project in Maharashtra. A plot of land has been earmarked for the proposed terminus at BKC. However, the state government has not yet freed the plot for construction of the station. Source: www.indiatoday.in Pandemic Effect • The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRC), a special purpose vehicle set up for the bullet train project, had invited tenders for the underground station. • It was to come up on 0.9 hectares at G Block in the BKC in November 2019. But work could not start in 2020 because of the pandemic.
