HPE picks up Silver Peak • Hewlett Packard Enterprise made a major commitment to the SD-WAN market in July when it revealed its intention to buy Silver Peak for $925 million. • Silver Peak was founded in 2004, and specializes in WAN technology, joining HPE 's networking brand Aruba. SUSE acquires Rancher • With the July acquisition of Rancher, SUSE, the company Linux specialist, is doubling down on Kubernetes for an undisclosed sum. • With customers like Sky, Sony Playstation and Deutsche Bahn, the Cupertino based company has built a popular open source Kubernetes container management platform. Uber to acquire rival Postmates • Ride hailing giant Uber agreed in July to buy food delivery company Postmates, in an all-stock takeover of $2.65 billion. • The merger will put together two of America's biggest food service firms and will endorse Uber's own Eats brand. Google acquires North • The search giant announced the acquisition of North in the end June, for an undisclosed amount, after its own failed effort at consumer smart glasses with Google Glass. • The Canadian company makes smart glasses for the stylish Focals and will join the Google office in their native Kitchener-Waterloo. Amazon to acquire Zoox • Amazon has announced it will acquire Zoox, a self-driving vehicle startup, for a estimated $1.2 billion in the end of June. • For some time now, Amazon has shown a keen interest in self-driving car space, taking stakes in the Rivian electric truckmaker and self-driving company Aurora. Microsoft acquires CyberX • Microsoft announced in July that it would acquire Israeli IoT security specialists CyberX for an undisclosed sum. • Microsoft will integrate CyberX technologies and expertise into its Azure cloud platform, where Azure IoT stack, Azure Security Center for IoT and Azure Sentinel are already on sale. Microsoft acquires Softomotive • Microsoft announced the acquisition in July of an undisclosed sum by UK- based robotic process automation software provider Softomotive. • Softomotive expertise and technology will be incorporated into Microsoft's Power Automate program – specifically its desktop automation tool WinAutomation. CISCO acquires Thousand Eyes • Cisco revealed its intention to purchase an unspecified sum for network intelligence specialist ThousandEyes in May. • ThousandEyes, headquartered in San Francisco, provides cloud-based analytics software for internet, local, and wide-area networks. Facebook Buys Giphy • On 15 June, Facebook revealed it was acquiring Giphy, the popular searchable library for mobile photos, or gifs. • The company and staff will be rolled into social media giant 's Instagram division.
