How to Download, Install, and Set up Database 
Server Manager
Below is the step-by-step process for accessing, setting up, and configuring the 
QuickBooks Database Server Manager properly. Also, make sure you always update it 
periodically to avoid issues like QBDBMgrn not running and other server errors.
Step 1: Download Database Server Manager
• Database Server Manager is a component of QuickBooks Desktop.
• Download and update QuickBooks Desktop and Database Server Manager updates 
automatically.
Step 2: Install Database Server Manager
• Close all open programs and QuickBooks on your server computer.
• Open the downloaded install file (Setup_QuickBooks.exe) and follow the instructions 
displayed on your screen.
• Select "Custom" or "Network Options" when prompted to choose an install type and click 
on "Next."
• Do not select "Express" as it overwrites previous versions.
• Choose the appropriate network setup option.
• Now, click on "Next."
• Both options install the QuickBooks database server manager. 
• Choose I'll be using QuickBooks Desktop on this computer, AND I'll be storing our 
company file here so it can be shared over out network if you want both Database Server 
Manager and QuickBooks Desktop on the server computer and if you only want Database 
Server Manager on the server computer, choose I will NOT be using QuickBooks Desktop 
on this computer.
Configure Database Server Manager:
• Follow the displayed instructions, and after that, select "Install."
• Open the Windows Start menu and search for "Services".
• Open "Services" and locate "QuickBooksDBXX" (XX denotes the version number).
• Navigate to "General" and locate "Service status."
• Stop the service if it's currently running by clicking on "Stop."
• Set the startup type to "Automatic," move to the "Logon," and select "Local System 
account."
• After that, navigate to "Recovery" and select "Restart the Service" from each: First 
failure, Second, and subsequent failures. 
• Now, move back to the "General" and restart Database Server Manager by selecting 
"Start."
Step 3: Set Firewall Permissions
• Check firewall and antivirus permissions to ensure Database Server Manager has the 
necessary permissions to run on your server computer.
