Air pollution : Release of pollutants in the air that are dangerous to human health and the whole Earth. 2 Causes of Air Pollution Burning fossil fuels releases gases and chemicals into the air. Air pollution not only contributes to climate change but is destroys the environment. Air pollution is basically a form of carbon dioxide and methane which raises the earth’s temperature. 3 4 Bad Effects of Air Pollution on Environment Acid Rain Eutrophication Greenhouse gases Effects Haze Destruction of Agriculture and Forests Global Warming Ozone Depletion Image Credit: tataclimate.org Acid Rain Acids are formed by oxides and sulphur oxides released in the atmosphere when fossil fuels are burned. These acids fall to the Earth inform of (rain, snow, or fog). 6 7 Eutrophication is happening in air and dangerous for water bodies. Nitrogen stimulate blooms of algae which kills fish and results as loss of plant and animal diversity. Eutrophication Greenhouse gases Effects By trapping the earth’s heat in the atmosphere, greenhouse gases lead to warmer temperatures and all the hallmarks of climate change: rising sea levels, more extreme weather, heat-related deaths, and increasing transmission of infectious diseases like Lyme. 8 Haze Haze is caused when sunlight combines with the tiny pollution particles in the air. Haze covers the clarity, colour, texture, and form of what we see. 9 Destruction of Agriculture and Forests Air pollution can damage our crops and forests, contaminating and destroying the food supply. It also slows the growth of forests and even causes some trees to die. 10 Global Warming Whole earth ecosystem is affected by Air pollution. Global warming is the result of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and it traps heat in the earth's environment. 11 Ozone Depletion There are a number of chemicals released in the air example chlorofluorocarbons. These Chemicals are the reason for depletion of ozone layer. Its very harmful as ultraviolet radiation to reach the earth due to depletion of Ozone layer. 12 13 THANKS!
