EDTECH INDUSTRY

EDTECH INDUSTRY EDTECH INDUSTRY INTRODUCTION  An industry that has the combined power of education and technology has managed to set trends along with some challenges that is set to mark its growth in the present era. With billions being invested, edTech is considered to be one of the richest and fastest growing industries.  Technology in Education: 1. School learning prepares students for the world of work. 2. Vocational training can be a practical means of teaching. JOURNEY TOWARDS EXPANSION Education and technology have joined hands for doing business that always hits profit, the profits need not necessarily be in terms of finance. Billions are being invested in startups with the news spreading like wildfire across the entire globe, its significance has increased with its awareness. The use of internet in schools, documentation, presentations, etc. are a living proof that technology is slowly making a place in the educational sector. These developments have to keep up with the pace of the ever increasing population. CHALLENGES IN TRADITIONAL EDUCATION  High fixed costs  Limited access  Content development  Different learning styles  Inefficient infrastructure ADVANTAGES OF TECHNOLOGY  Minimal Cost  Measurable outcomes  Increased access  Increases efficiency  Personalized content  Adaptive delivery CHANGES IN EDUCATION SYSTEM 1-Rapidly growing student population base Major (quality) supply-side constraints: Low enrolment ratios in India, quality a major issue even when access is available. Ed-tech platforms can enable education to the masses by ensuring both easier access and consistent quality. 2-Increased penetration of e-devices Mobile and tablet penetration in India increasing rapidly. Favorable government policies promoting use of e-devices in schools (K-12) 3-Rising costs, particularly in higher/ vocational education High willingness to pay among Indian consumer offsets this effect somewhat, but ability of MOOCs and DLP to offer cheaper courses could become relevant 4- Stress on higher quality education / modern pedagogy Demand for better in-classroom experience in private schools and colleges. Extra supplementary education outside classes; fun and interactive learning techniques. CHALLENGES IN EDTECH "Technology will never replace great teachers, but technology in the hands of great teachers is transformational" – a quote that very well supports the use of education in technology.   Changing student behavior to go all-mobile is not working.  Everyone downloads apps, but there are no paying customers.  Institutions are competing with ed-tech companies and have money for the long run.  Too much money is chasing cost-effective courses rather than outcomes.  The industry is competing with each other rather than planning to take on large institutions.  They are yet to make any profits out of their customer base. UNIVERSITY OF THE FUTURE?  Coursera  Edx  Mooc  Udacity  Udemy  Internshala THANK YOU!!!
