One  of  the  other  main  beverages  that  are  tested,  is  milk.  Milk  is  an 
essential  item  that  is  consumed  by  most  people  in  the  country.  The 
production and distribution of milk has become quite privatised as well. 
But they have to follow by the riles laid by the FSSAI (the Food Safety 
and Standards Authority of India). Every milk producer has to get their 
milk  checked  for  any  traces  of  contamination  such  as  some 
antibiotic residues in milk.

How Do Antibiotics Become A Part?
But  how  can  milk  have  any  antibiotics?  Cows  that  are  milked  are 
generally the ones that are healthy. But just like humans, animals can fall 
sick and catch infections too. In cows, one of the infections is known as 
mastitis.  It  is  an  infection  that  is  painful,  caused  by  a  blockage  in  the 
breast that milks. It usually happens due to bacteria that enter the breast. 
Heavy doses of antibiotics are given to the cow to make her feel alright 
and this takes several weeks, sometimes three weeks put together.

A  ntibiotics That Can Be Found In Milk
If  a  that  has  been  treated  and  recovered,  but  has  still  retained  some 
antibiotics in her system, is used for milking, the antibiotics easily enter 
the milk system and can contaminate the rest of the milk as well. These 
antibiotics can cause a lot of allergic reaction if consumed and could also 
be fatal. Therefore, testing the milk for the presence of antibiotics such as 
penicillin, sulfa or anything else becomes all the more crucial.
