MARTYRS OF INDIA INTRODUCTION •In India, mainly on 2 dates, Martyr's Day or Shaheed Divas is observed. •On this day we pay homage to the freedom fighters who have sacrificed their lives for their Motherland. Source: www.jagranjosh.com MARTYR’S DAY IN INDIA On 30 January Martyr's Day or Shaheed Diwas is celebrated in the memory of Mahatma Gandhi and on 23rd March also Martyr's Day is celebrated to pay tribute to three extraordinary revolutionaries of India who were hanged to death by the British namely Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar. Source: www.jagranjosh.com BHAGAT SINGH AND HIS COMPANIONS •Bhagat Singh together with his companions Rajguru, Sukhdev, Azad, and Gopal fought for the assassination of Lala Lajpat Rai. •On 23rd March, 1931 in the Lahore Jail they were hanged. Source: www.jagranjosh.com MAHATMA GANDHI •Mahatma Gandhi was a prominent political and spiritual leader of the Indian Independence movement. •He also received international fame for his non- violent protest theory to achieve political and social progress. Source: www.jagranjosh.com SARDAR VALLABHBHAI PATEL •Despite being a famous lawyer, he withdrew his profession and contributed against the freedom of the country. •After Independence, he became the Deputy Prime Minister of India and played a vital role. Source: www.jagranjosh.com SUBHASH CHANDRA BOSE •He was shaken by the incident of the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre and retuned India from England in the year 1921. •Bose was a part of the Civil Disobedience movement and even joined the Indian National Congress. Source: www. aplustopper.com DADABHAI NAOROJI •Dadabhai Naoroji the one behind the formation of the Indian National Congress was born in the year 1825. •Being a Prominent Activist he joined the non-violence independent movement. Source: www.jagranjosh.com RAM PRASAD BISMIL •Ram Prasad Bismil was a young revolutionary Independence Fighters from India who martyred for his country like Bhagat Singh. • British government sentenced him to death for involving in the notorious Kakori train robbery. Source: www. aplustopper.com BIPIN CHANDRA PAL •Bipin Chandra Pal was a substantial part of the Indian National Congress and he is the one who encouraged the abandonment of foreign goods. •He formed an association with Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Lala Lajpat Rai, and Lal-Pal-Bal trio. Source: www. aplustopper.com HOW IS MARTYR’S DAY CELEBRATED ACROSS THE COUNTRY? •The President, the Vice President, the Prime Minister, and the Defense Minister on 30 January get together at the Rajghat to the Samadhi of the Mahatma Gandh to pay honour by putting a garland of flowers. • 2 minutes' silence was kept there in the memory of the Father of Nation, Bapu and other martyr's throughout the country.
