How water produce electricity

HOW WATER PRODUCE ELECTRICITY? Introduction Renewable energy and renewable energy sources are very important in the current situation of world. Water is one of the renewable energy sources. It is efficient and wise to use water for electricity generation.  Electricity is generated at Hydroelectric power stations. The new economy Hydroelectric power stations Different methods are used for electricity generation. 1. Conventional method 2. Pumped- storage method 3. Run – of – the river 4. Tide 5. Underground Conventional method Hydroelectric power station is consist of – 1.Reservoir – • A basic part of any hydroelectric power station. • Reservoirs can be natural or artificial. • Water in the reservoir is in the form of potential energy. Conventional method 2.Turbines– • There are three main turbines used for converting potential energy into Kinetic energy. • Turbines are a vital part of any hydroelectricity power generation method. 1.Impulse turbine 2. Reaction turbine 3. Gravity turbine Conventional method How Turbine works– • The penstock which is a large pipe delivers the water from the dam or reservoir to the turbine. • The turbine rotates and converts potential energy into kinetic energy. • The turbine is connected to the generator. Conventional method 3.Generator– • The generator is connected to the turbines. • When the turbine rotates, produce kinetic energy. • This Kinetic energy is converted to the electric energy by generators. Electricity generation using Conventional method Other methods- • Turbine and Generator is a vital part of any method. • How water delivers to the turbine decides the method. • This Kinetic energy is converted to the electric energy by generators. 1. Pumped- storage method- uses reservoirs at different elevation 2. Run – of – the river- Upstream water is used. 3. Tide- Ocean water rise and fall used. 4. Underground- water delivers from Waterfall.
