F i n i s h e d  i n  1814, B l o c k h o u s e  N o .  1, a small  fort  i n  the C e n t ra l  Park,  is  
the oldest re c o g n i z e d  b u i l d i n g  i n  the park.  It was the bastion m a d e   
against  the British d u r i n g  the 1812 war U n i t e d  States a n d  the U n i t e d   
K i n g d o m .

Seneca  Village
A  vil lage cal led " S e ne ca Vil lage" was cleared o f f  to b u i l d  C e n t ra l  Park.   
It was a small  vi l lage with m o s t ly  A f r i c a n  A m e r i c a n  c o m m u n i t i e s   
residing here i n  the M a n h a t t a n  B o r o u g h .
