Many people who attend a traditional Folk Art Auction do not even know that it is 
an auction. Most are aware of the auction format and associate it with great 
quality products at a very low price. There are a number of artists who have made 
it to the top of the ladder of Folk Art Auction winners, but because of the limited 
number of attendees for each sale, the sale is not able to generate a significant 
profit for the artist. 
Because there is a limited number of seats available for each Folk Art Auction 
sale, a Folk Art Auction has become known as a " Folk Fest" or "Folk Art 
Celebration". In addition to the artists selling their wares, many of the sellers will 
offer music, food, poetry readings, demonstrations, and much more. Because the 
artists only receive a portion of the final sale proceeds, they feel compelled to 
offer even more for their work, often creating a one of a kind Folk Art Work of 
Art. To this end, a traditional Folk Art Auction is a one of a kind event with a 
strong cultural element. 
The target market for Folk Art for sale is both established and self-directed artists 
looking to promote their own art. Many traditional dealers tend to steer clear of 
self-taught artists, while independent artists have historically been a bit harder to 
find. Many traditional dealers have developed partnerships with local artisans to 
promote the work of well-known contemporary artists. This relationship has been 
beneficial to dealers who take advantage of the additional exposure that a well-
known dealer can bring to a local artist's work. Artists who self-treat their works 
also benefit from a built network of buyers and potential buyers. 
Traditional Folk Art Auction events tend to attract patrons from the local 
community and are traditionally held on the second weekend in February. There 
is typically an all-day sale of decorative arts, jewelry, native American instruments 
and pottery. The schedules tend to run over two weekends in February with the 
first weekend reserved for the traditional Indian and native American holiday 
feasts. A traditional Folk Art Auction is also scheduled for the month of March. 
The artisans who sell their wares at these events also showcase their work in a 
Folk Art Gallery. The gallery is designed to display the entire spectrum of the 
various works available through the Folk Art Auction sale. They may display the 
items one by one on a large screen, or group all of the artist's works together to 
create a larger Folk Art Gallery. Because the proceeds from the sale go to benefit 
the artists, the Folk Art Gallery is considered a beneficial and necessary 
organization in the arts community. 
Event - Deliberately boosted by passionate response to November's Folk Art 
Auction, Slotin Folk Art for sale will expand its offerings in the next year. The 
theme is: "The American Indian Experience." Dates and topics are: February 14, 
Southern Folk Pottery, American Indian Weddings & BBQ, African American Folk 
Art, Antique Folk Art for sale, and Spring Tribal Art for sale. Additional themes will 
be announced in future months.
