The new members as per the notification are: IIT Varanasi IIT Bhilai IIT Palakkad These newest members will be accepting the IIT JAM Score Card for admission in the MSc courses. IIT Varanasi also known as IIT BHU is the oldest IIT from these three. About IIT Varanasi (IIT BHU) IIT Varanasi is a public engineering college which is located in Varanasi (UP). The institute was formerly established in pre-independence phase as Banaras Engineering College in 1919. After independence, it became the Institute of Technology in year 1968 and the name changed to Banaras Hindu University. The institute was later designated as Indian Institute of Technology in the year 2012 and then it got the name – IIT BHU. Ranking of IIT Varanasi (NIRF 2019) With the motto of “Sanskar hi Shiksha”, the Institute is ranked among the top colleges of the nation. As per the NIRF 2019 (National Institute Ranking Framework) the institute was ranked 3rd among all the universities in India. On overall factors, the institute is ranked 10 in India.
