PowerPoint Presentation SACHIN TENDULKAR god of cricket Sachin Tendulkar Born in 24 April 1973. He took up cricket at the age of 11, and started his Test career against Pakistan at the age of 16. Ajit introduced him to cricket in 1984. He introduced the young Sachin to Ramakant Achrekar, a famous cricket coach. In 1987, at the age of 14, he attended the MRF Pace Foundation in Madras (now Chennai) to train as a fast bowler, but Australian fast bowler Dennis Lillee, who took a world record 355 Test wickets, was unimpressed, suggesting that Tendulkar focus on his batting instead. In 1988, when he was just under 16, he scored 100 not out in for Bombay against Gujrat. This was on his first-class debut. He scored a century in all three of his Irani Trophy, Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy debuts, and became the first player to do so. He was selected for the tour of Pakistan next year. Sachin played his first Test match against Pakistan in Karachi in 1989 at the age of 16. HE SCORED A TEST CENTURY AT OLD TRAFFORD IN ENGLAND, IN 1990. THE ENGLISH WERE HIGHLY IMPRESSED BY HIS STROKES AND PLACEMENT. Tendulkar's two tenures as captain of the Indian cricket team were not very successful. When Tendulkar took over as captain in 1996, it was with huge hopes and expectations. However, by 1997 the team was performing poorly. Tendulkar was dismissed seven times in 2007 between 90 and 100, including three times at 99. Tendulkar has got out 27 times in the 90s during his international career. TENDULKAR ANNOUNCED HIS RETIREMENT FROM ONE DAY INTERNATIONALS ON 23 DECEMBER 2012. On 10 October 2013 Tendulkar announced that he would retire from all cricket after the two- Test series against West Indies in November. Sachin Tendulkar is the leading run scorer in Tests, with 15,921 runs, as well as in One-Day Internationals, with 18,426 runs. HE ALSO HOLDS THE RECORD OF THE HIGHEST NUMBER OF CENTURIES IN BOTH TESTS (51) AND ODIS (49) AS WELL AS IN TESTS AND ODIS COMBINED (100).
