Decarbonizing its Agribusiness
Sundown Pastoral, a privately owned Australian agricultural and pastoral  
enterprise, partnered with green hydrogen developer Hiringa to start producing  
green hydrogen as early as 2025 from rainwater in order to decarbonize fertilizer  
and fuel for irrigation equipment at the site. For this green hydrogen project—
also  referred to as GEGHA (Good Earth Green Hydrogen and Ammonia) project—
both  the companies stated that they would source water from rainwater runoff 
from the  Wathagar cotton gin.
The research grant of Australian dollar 35.8 million (USD 23.53 million) for the  
project has been released by the New South Wales government, which covers up  
to 50% of eligible capex as long as projects start to produce or use green H2 
from  2025. Also, the firms are anticipating the production of 936.5 tonnes of 
hydrogen  and 3,800 tonnes of liquid anhydrous ammonia per year through this 
project.
Besides this, the allies plan to build a 27MW solar array, which will provide power 
 for cotton gin operations, the grid, and the electrolyzer, in three 9MW phases, 
with  the first already near completion. Both firms have suggested replacing 
diesel-  powered irrigation equipment with fuel cells-powered systems for low 
carbon  emissions.
