Activated carbon is a form of carbon commonly used to purify liquids and gases in a variety of applications, including municipal drinking water, food and beverage processing, odor removal, industrial pollution control. It is processed to have small, low-volume pores that increase the surface area available for adsorption or chemical reactions. Activated carbon is produced by pyrolysis of organic materials of plant origin.
