Adventurous Sports in Dubai
Dubai is .wonders of architecture that adorn
it, but what makes it an even popular choice
among tourists is the wide array of adventure
sports available here. Dubai is deservingly
renowned for its beauty but it holds much
more beyond its glitz and luxuries. But, if you
have a thing for the thrill and crave an
adrenaline rush, Dubai awaits you with a
range of some of the best and most extreme
adventure sports that will give you the thrill
to remember.
Adventurous Sports in Dubai
1 Skydiving
This activity has the maximum fear factor
with jumpers going from 0 to a maximum 201
kilometres per hour when freefalling from
13,000 feet when they leap from a SkyDive
Dubai plane. It will cost you Dhs1,750 for
tandem jumps with a videographer but you’ll
have to be a minimum of 18 years old and
weigh no more than 100kgs or have a body
mass index (BMI) of 30 to take part.
2 Sandboarding
Like snowboarding in the mountains but,
well, doing it in the desert instead. For
Dhs220 you can get four hours of practice in
the bank at The Empty Quarter in Liwa
Oasis. You’ll have to be at least 13 years old
to take part. You get to don casual clothing
and footwear but don’t let the chilled out
clobber fool you into thinking it’s a happygo
lucky sport. Sandboarding down Al Hamer,
Dubai’s tallest sand dune at 100m, might just
frighten the life out of you.
3 Hummer Desert Safari
This is one of the most amazing sports in Dubai, and
therefore it is something you must embark on when in the
United Arab Emirates.
The Hummer H2 desert safari is basically going on dune
bashing riding a Hummer H2. The idea of dune bashing lies
in the fact that you can come crashing down the sand dune
from great heights that are unique to the region around
Dubai and feel the adrenaline rushing in you.
A ride in Hummer H2 gives you that thrill which you may
not find in riding any other vehicle.
4 Dune Bashing
This is a fun one for all the family and you
only have to be three years old to join in this
one. Hop in an SUV at Big Red, Rub’ al Khali
Desert – the second latest in the world at
250,000 square miles and nearby deserts
and for Dhs200 per person. A popular option
alongside dune bashing is going on a desert
safari, with some tour operators even
providing camping options so you can sleep
under the stars.
5 Hot Air Balloon
Hot air balloon rides in Dubai are one of those
exotic adventure activities, that one must embark
on to realise how mindblowing they are. Set in
the backdrop of the Dubai skyline, a ride in a hot
air balloon gives you the kind of perspective a
traveller needs when in Dubai.
Soaring several hundred feet above the ground,
you can have a bird’s eye view of the city below,
the sand dunes, the unending Persian Gulf, and of
course, landmark buildings such as the Burj
Khalifa and the Burj Al Arab.
6. Fly boarding
Every time a celebrity comes to town it seems
to be the first thing they do. Soar across
Dubai’s futuristic cityscape at a top speed of
40kilometres per hours at Jumeirah Harbour
for Dhs300. Just bring your swimwear and you
must be able to prove you’re at least 18 years
old.
7 Racing
Channel you inner Lewis Hamilton and head to
Motor City as Dubai has the world’s longest straight
circuit. In a BHO singleseater you’ll hit a speed of
100km per hour in four seconds. As a passenger you
can whizz around for a little as Dhs100 and as a
driver you’ll have to fork out Dhs875 to Dhs1200. It’s
not available to those under 21 years old though.
You’ll have a have a valid driving licence and the
experience is only available to those with a weight
up to a maximum of 118kg.
