HOW TO CONVINCE WHEN SOMEONE REFUSES TO TAKE THEIR MEDICATION? By Gyandeep Sahu WHY PEOPLE ARE AFRAID OF MEDICATION? 1. Some people do not believe in their medication when they see no immediate effect of medicines 2. The side effects of their medication sometimes is not tolerable. 3. People do not want to spend on medicines. 4. They feel like they are already well and don’t need medications CATEGORY OF PEOPLE WHO REFUSE Generally this category includes: Senior Citizen Stubborn people Kids POSSIBLE TIPS WHICH CAN SOLVE THE PROBLEM TIPS – 1 (CONVINCE WITH POSITIVE EMOTIONS) When someone denies to take medicines don’t yell at them Control your temper Ask them the reason behind it Talk softly TIPS – 2 (FOCUS ON PRESCRIPTION) Do not push people for vitamins and other supplements especially in case of senior people Provide medicines only prescribed by their doctor(s) TIPS – 3 (SEEK DOCTOR’S ATTENTION) Have them get a regular visit to their doctor(s) for their progress Avoid medication if doctor is satisfied with the progress Let the doctors explain them on the medications instead of you/ family forcing them TIPS – 4 (SOLUTION FOR SIDE EFFECTS) Ask them what kind of side effects they’re facing after taking medicines. Find out if the patient wants medications as pills or liquid and serve them accordingly CONCLUSION Positive attitude and strong determination to be cured plays vital role in getting well out of any disease.
