Combine harvester or combine machine is one of the larget farm implements that can harvest, winnow, and thresh rice, corn, wheat, sunflower, pulses, and other crops right out in the field in a single step. Combine perform harvesting operation in such a manner that It can save operation time as well as human effort, and bring down work costs for farmers. Overall these machines can increase farming output since the harvesting is carried out more efficiently, and due to this, it makes farming more profitable.

Combine Harvester Case Study Click to edit Master subtitle style By: Sarah John Combine Harvester In the Era of farm mechanization combine is one of the popular agriculture machines that perform multiple operations like harvest, winnow, and thresh into a single pass. Combine Harvester's work in such a manner that it minimizes our time as well as human effort, due to this it brings down work costs for farmers. Combine harvesters are one of the most economically important labour saving inventions, significantly reducing the fraction of the population engaged in agriculture Combine Harvester Combine perform crop cutting operation in such a manner that it can save time as well as human effort, and bring down work costs for farmers. In addition, these Agriculture implements can increase agricultural productivity since the harvesting is carried out in a more efficient manner, and this, in turn, can make farming more profitable. The combine was first invented in the United States by Hiram Moore in 1834, and an early form of the combine was pulled by horse or mule teams, ox. In 1835, Moore built a full-scale version of combine in 1839, over 50 acres of crops were harvested. Advantages of Combine Harvester Combine Harvester performs multiple operations like reaping, threshing, and winnowing in a single pass so that it minimizes our time and effort. however, in the manual process of harvesting, we require separate effort for every activity. As we know due to very fast harvesting process, The field can be available to use for the next crop within a short duration of time, due to this fact the probability of production becomes increase within the period. The quality of the product by combine is preserved because it is not damaged by natural and biological activity. combine produce produces cleaner grain as compared to the manual harvesting process, for which the market often is ready to pay a premium price. The time taken by Harvesting by combine is quite lesser than the manual process. Types of Combine Harvesters Self-propelled Combine Harvesters These wheeled harvester machines are excellent for farms with hard soil, and are the standard types that are in use in India. Track Combine Harvesters These combine harvesters are fitted with tracks instead of wheel, and they are very efficient in areas where wheels are likely to get bogged down. They are commonly used for harvesting rice from wet lands. Tractor Mounted Combine Harvesters These harvesters can be driven by tractors that mounted on top of them; the tractors are hoisted up and down by small cranes. These harvesters work best on lands where the soil is loose and the farmed area is extensive. Components/Different Operating Units: Header Unit/Cutting and Gathering Unit: Header Unit is used to cut and gather the crops and feed to the threshing unit. Feeding Unit: Chain and slat type of Feeding Unit is used to receive the harvested crop from cross auger (pushes the harvested crop to conveyor) and deliver it into the threshing unit. Threshing Unit: The threshing of the grain is done by the use of threshing cylinder and concave. Separating Unit: Separating of grain from crop begin at the concave through which it falls directly. The remaining gcombine 3rains and straw are then feed to the straw walker (oscillate at 200-300 stokes/min drop the grain to the cleaning unit by tossing action). Cleaning Unit: The cleaning unit consists of a combination of two sieves and a blower. The sieves have the oscillating motion. The grain and chaff are winnowed by the blower. Finally clean grain is delivered to the auger i.e. clean grain auger. Then, from elevator clean grain goes to handling unit. Blown grain goes to tailing auger and finally reach to tailing discharge to cylinder by elevator. Handling Unit: It consists of clean grain auger where threshed grains are collected; elevator for conveying grain to the tank; then grain unloading auger for bagging. Combine Harvester Market Report Factors To Consider When Buying A Combine Harvester The Height Of The Harvester: Height is often not the first thing that comes into a farmer's mind when shopping for a combine harvester, because it often seems like an inconsequential feature of the harvester. However, it is an important factor for consideration. One of the potential risks associated with using combine harvesters is that parts of the harvester could easily get into contact with overhead power lines running through the farm. This would be a threat to the safety of persons trusted to operate the harvester. Thus, it is important for farmers to ensure that the height of their preferred harvester is lower than the height of the lowest-lying overhead power line across the farm area. This will help to eliminate chances of contact between overhead power lines and the combine harvester. When determining the most appropriate height for a combine harvester, farmers should remember to include the height of extensions and accessories that will be used with the harvester. Examples of these extensions and accessories include grain tank extensions, radio aerials and unloading spouts. Factors To Consider When Buying A Combine Harvester The Availability Of Spare Parts: The availability of harvester spare parts is also an important factor for farmers to consider before an acquisition is made. In a large number of cases, time is a limited resource during the harvest season. A farmer needs to be sure that OEM spare parts for their chosen harvester will be readily available in the event that there's need for replacement of parts mid-way through the harvest. Lack of spare parts or delays in receiving these parts (e.g. if the parts have to be shipped from overseas) could easily translate to huge farm losses as a result of downtime occasioned by the wearing out and/or failure of mechanical parts in a combined harvester. Comfort Comfort is probably the last thing that a farmer will think of when shopping for a harvester. However, it is an important factor considering the amount of time that a farmer will spend in the harvester cabin during harvest season.
