Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder and one of the most misunderstood mental health issues. OCD generally causes significant distress and at times can observe hours of a person’s day performing rituals. Often times if a person shows tendencies for being neat and systematized, we attribute them to OCD. Psychologists can’t able to find out what exactly causes OCD, but it comes into view that genetics often play a role in those who are diagnosed with OCD.

People with this disorder obsess over spreading germs and fear such things as household chemicals, paint fumes, spoiled food, sticky substances, pets, garbage, bodily fluids (urine, semen, blood), and many more. Contamination OCD causes daily breaks in every phase of life. Perfection As per research perfections, OCD refers to an overwhelming fear of making mistakes; an intense need for things to be “done right” – may or may not be accompanied by a fear that harm will come to oneself or others if things are not done perfectly and bring the same level effort, detail and energy to every task; all tasks are equally important for a person. In psychology, Perfectionism is a broad personality style characterized by a person's concern with striving for flawlessness and perfection and is accompanied by critical self-evaluations and concerns regarding others' evaluations. It is best conceptualized as a multidimensional and multi- layered personality characteristic, and initially, some psychologists thought that there were many positive and negative aspects. Perfectionism drives an individual to be concerned with achieving non-realistic goals that often lead to many forms of adjustment problems for example depression, anxiety, and OCD. Doubt/harm In this type of OCD that causes a person to have doubts and fears about whether they are in control of themselves and if they could become violent or brutal towards themselves or others. A most common example is that of leaving the gas stove on before leaving home possibly causing a house fire. Along with their fear of accidental harm is also often an overwhelming feeling of self-doubt or dread and being responsible for what may happen. Forbidden thoughts As per hypnotherapists, Forbidden thoughts are thoughts that enter your consciousness without warning. They are often graphic and offensive. We all experience these thoughts; however, it becomes OCD when we are unable to control them. Psychology Associates will be running a weekly in-person support group for people with OCD with forbidden thoughts, which include themes of a violent and sexual nature. People with these persistent or constant thoughts often feel ashamed, misrepresented, and misunderstood. Professional Therapies for obsessive-compulsive disorder typically consist of medication, TREATMENT OF OCD psychotherapy, and Hypnotherapy. While there is no one-pill-wonder to treat OCD, there are medications and Hypnotherapy that have been proven to be helpful. Research show medication can provide relief for about 40-70% of people and Hypnotherapy helps relax your mind. This traditional process can help you to go to the deeper levels of your consciousness to re-connect with positive and negative experiences, emotions, and thoughts from the past. Also, hypnotherapists understand how these OCD problems are blocking and inhibiting you in the present. The beauty of the therapy is recovering your suppressed memories, emotions, and thoughts that hold you back from fully living in the here and now.
