Familial Adenomatous Polyposis is a rare inherited cancer predisposition syndrome characterized by hundreds to thousands of precancerous colorectal polyps (adenomatous polyps). If left untreated, affected individuals inevitably develop colon and/or rectum cancer at a relatively young age. In addition, an increased risk exists for the development of other malignancies.
