Organic Farming
ORGANIC FARMING What is Organic Farming? • Organic farming can be defined as a system of management and agricultural production that combines a high level of biodiversity with environmental practices that preserve natural resources and has rigorous standards for animal welfare. Source: youmatter.world Disadvantage • The yields of organic farming are generally lower than those of conventional farming. This means higher operating costs. • Therefore, in general, the recommended retail price (RRP) for consumers buying from organic farming is higher than the selling prices of traditional agriculture. Thus, organic farming reduces the potentially harmful effects of pesticides on biodiversity and ecosystems. Source: youmatter.world Sustainability over the long term • Organic agriculture considers the medium- and long-term effect of agricultural interventions on the agro-ecosystem. • It aims to produce food while establishing an ecological balance to prevent soil fertility or pest problems. Organic agriculture takes a proactive approach as opposed to treating problems after they emerge.
