Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle

REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE INTRODUCTION Reduce, Reuse, Recycle – these three 'R' words are an important part of sustainable living, as they help to cut down on the amount of waste we have to throw away. Source: www.solarschools.net Reduce, reuse, recycle • Reduce the amount of waste you produce. • Reuse items as much as you can before replacing them. • Recycle items wherever possible. The key is to only purchase goods that we need and in the right amount. • If we never generate products in the first place, we do not have to extract raw resources, manufacture goods from scratch, come up with shipping materials, utilize additional resources for shipping, and then devise ways to dispose of them. Get the most mileage out of the materials you encounter. • Sometimes materials can be reused by other people. Working computers and parts can often be donated to community centers or charitable organizations. Clothing can often be donated and given a second life. Reuse wrapping paper, plastic bags, boxes, and lumber. 3. Give outgrown clothing to friends or charity. 4. Buy beverages in returnable containers. 5. Donate broken appliances to charity or a local vocational school, which can use them for art classes or for students to practice repairing. If you have recycling pick-up services, you will be familiar with recycling paper, plastic and metal materials. • These materials are carefully processed at TC Recycling. The separated and processed materials will later be processed into other goods.
